    What 'Timeless' Actually Is

On April 27, 2026, Kalshi is launching a product called Timeless — a new class of event contract that has no expiration date. Until now, every contract on Kalshi has had a fixed settlement (a game ends, a CPI print drops, a hurricane hits or doesn't). Timeless contracts trade indefinitely until either side closes their position. Think of them as the prediction-market equivalent of a perpetual swap in crypto.

If you've ever traded a Binance or Hyperliquid perp, the model will look familiar: instead of a settlement event resolving the contract, traders pay or receive a small periodic 'funding rate' that anchors the market price to an underlying probability index. The upside for traders is that you can express a long-term view (or a hedge) without rolling into a new contract every week or month.

    How Funding Rates Will Work

Kalshi has not published the full mechanics yet, but based on the patent filings and the way every other perp market in the industry works, the funding rate will pull the contract price toward an oracle-determined fair value. If Yes is trading above the underlying probability, longs pay shorts. If Yes is trading below, shorts pay longs. The rate is small — typically a few basis points per period — but it compounds.

For Florida traders, this matters because it changes the kind of edges you can express. Right now, if you think the Heat make the playoffs, you have to trade a specific seasonal contract with a fixed expiry. With a Timeless contract on 'Heat win an NBA title in the next 5 years,' you can hold a directional view across multiple seasons without manually rolling positions.

Markets That Will Likely Launch on Day One

    • Long-horizon political contracts (next president, next FL governor cycle, party control of Congress)
    • Crypto price perpetuals (BTC > $200k ever, ETH > $10k ever)
    • Climate contracts (year of first ice-free Arctic September, US carbon-neutral year)
    • Tech milestones (AGI declared by major lab, first $5T market-cap company)
    • Sports dynasties (next team to repeat as NBA champ, next 4-peat)

Why This Matters for FL Affiliates and Traders

Three reasons. First, perpetuals attract sophisticated traders — the kind who arb funding rates against options markets — which means deeper liquidity across the whole platform. Second, they create a 24/7 trading surface even when sports calendars are quiet, which historically depressed FL prediction-market volume in late spring. Third, they unlock long-tail Florida-specific markets that previously couldn't justify a fixed expiry: 'Will Tampa host a Super Bowl in the 2030s?', 'Will the Marlins win another World Series this decade?'

    Risks to Watch

Perpetuals have one ugly failure mode: when funding rates spike, retail gets liquidated. Kalshi will need to publish clear margin and liquidation rules before launch. Florida traders new to perps should start with small positions, pay attention to funding flips, and treat the product as more advanced than standard event contracts. The best prediction-market traders in 2026 will be the ones who learn the perp mechanics first.
